Hosted with the Issaquah Jazz Bands, Swingin' in Vienna is an evening of live music and dancing along with light refreshments and desserts. The event began in 1999 and was largely attended by community members who enjoyed dancing to the orchestra and jazz band. Over the years is has taken place at a few venues, first at Skyline High School, then the Issaquah Community Center and with the remodeling of Issaquah High School, the event has been held in the commons of that building ever since.
Only one year has been missed, while the building was shut down in 2021 during the pandemic. In 2022, restrictions were still in place as we planned the event and the decision was made to make Swingin' in Vienna a "Live in Concert" production. Attendees were still encouraged to dress up and come enjoy some of the music performed annually for the dance. Many attendees came dressed to the nines- it was a very fun evening! In 2023, we returned to the traditional presentation of the event as a dance. Admission includes three hours of live music, desserts, refreshments, photo booth and a coat check.
Don't know how to waltz or swing dance? No problem! A quick basic dance instruction is given for both styles of dances and everyone has a great time trying to get it right. Sometimes we even have people attend who really know what they are doing come and join the party. It's always a great evening!
