Each year Evergreen students compete for the handful of spots as soloists in the annual Concerto Competition. Students prepare these works outside of their usual duties for orchestra, memorizing their piece and working with an accompanist to present it to a small panel in early January.
Winners are chosen from multiple criterion, including technical and musical abilities, stage presence and choice of literature. The decisions are always difficult! The orchestra works to prepare the accompaniments for each of these pieces, performing each piece in a concert which takes place in late April each year.
This year's program was stunning, as always and included a world premiere of a piece composed by the soloist.
