The first concert of the season for the orchestra is always exciting. It's the first time the new ensemble (every year we have new players become part of the orchestra), which is always an exhilarating experience. The orchestra also features the Middle School Honor Orchestra as an "opening act."
Music for Season Premiere is selected from some of the greatest standards from the orchestral repertoire as well as the possibility of more recent pieces, always playing the original work, whenever it is available. This means the orchestra is performing professional level music by the end of the second month of school.
The Middle School Honor Orchestra is made up of students from all five of the district's middle school and students are admitted by teacher recommendation. The Middle School Honor Orchestra performs two or three pieces for the more advanced middle school player. They rehearse five times before performing, so the expectations are high. Students must prepare this music outside of their daily class rehearsals and attend the evening rehearsals. This music is typically more advanced than the music these students will play in their individual school performances. The conductor of this group may change from year to year. Currently, we are very pleased to have Cindy Elder, from Pine Lake Middle School, working with the students. There is an Evergreen student (or two) who manage the rehearsals from the performer/administrative side of things while Doug Longman oversees the program. Many of the members of this hand selected group go on to become member of Evergreen.
