The students attend daily orchestra classes at Skyline and Issaquah High and each Friday after school, the whole orchestra rehearses together. This group of talented musicians performs an ambitious and varied schedule of concerts during the year, including standard symphonic literature, musical theater, concerti and waltzes.
Auditions are due the last Friday before February break for admission for the following year. Click HERE for more information about auditioning.
About the director
Leah Weitzsacker has been teaching since 1997. She holds a BA and MM in Music Education, concentrating in instrumental music, with a minor in flute performance from the State University of New York College at Fredonia. She studied conducting with Rudolph Emilson and Dr. Russell C. Mikkelson. Leah earned her Performer’s Certificate while completing her undergraduate work, which is the highest performance award given by the Fredonia School of Music, usually earned by Performance Majors, while studying flute with Dr. Susan Royal and Mr. Jonathan Keeble.
Leah has been teaching in the Issaquah School District since 2017. She is the director of orchestras at Issaquah High School, directing the Evergreen Philharmonic since fall of 2018. She continues to perform as principal flute with the Washington Wind Symphony and also serves as the president of that group. When she is not performing or directing, Leah works on her farm with her husband.
